SAN FRANCISCO–OpenAI, whose ChatGPT solution attracted more than 100 million users in record time and which is already in use at countless credit unions, has announced several new features, including that it can listen to user’s spoken requests and respond vocally.
That kind of functionality is already familiar to users of offerings such as Alexa and Siri, but it marks a new feature for ChatGPT.
“Voice is a more natural way of interacting with ChatGPT, according to OpenAI executives, who also said that their chatbot will feature voices that sound more natural than those of existing digital assistants,” according to the New York Times, which described the voice used by ChatGPT as a “little robotic.”
OpenAI is adding other features to ChatGPT, including image recognition. One example that OpenAI demonstrated in a video: Share an image of a bicycle with the chatbot and it will instruct the user how to lower the seat. The demo includes “showing” ChatGPT the bicycle seat and a tool box, and then asking questions and having the AI provide instructions and point out the correct tool to use.
‘New Dangers’
“With new capabilities come worries about new dangers,” the New York Times analysis added. “OpenAI executives said that they won’t let ChatGPT identify faces, though the software will be able to talk at length about other pictures it’s asked to analyze. There’s also the risk that greater use of ChatGPT will lead to potential mishaps involving the well-known A.I. weakness of inventing facts, known as hallucinating.”
