MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.–CUNA’s Open Your Eyes awareness campaign has received a significant, albeit brief, boost in exposure, albeit not for the reasons anyone would want.
A video of four Minneapolis police officers restraining George Floyd on the ground, including one officer who has his knee on the back of Floyd’s neck, has gone viral after Floyd later suffocated. The four officers have since been fired, after the video showed Floyd repeatedly protesting that he could not breathe.
In a video shot by one police officer’s body camera, a Minneapolis Metro Transit bus pulls up in the background behind another police officer. For a few seconds in the video the “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” message can be seen on the bus side.
The video has been viewed millions of times across numerous news platforms in both the United States and internationally.
The FBI is currently investigating the incident.
