WASHINGTON—Congress has passed a one-year extension of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act’s (SCRA’s) post-service mortgage protections.
That amendment extends a provision that ensures service members who are serving in the armed forces are protected against losing their home for one year upon his or her return from active duty, if the mortgage was obtained before the service member was an active member of the military. The protection, which has previously been extended, was set to expire on Dec. 31. It will now be in effect through year-end 2015.
