CUMBERLAND, R.I.— Rhode Island State Police are investigating a card-skimming device found on a credit union’s ATM that is believed to have led to more than $100,000 in theft.
The device, found on an ATM of Navigant Credit Union, was believed to have been placed on the ATM by a person who has since been captured in surveillance video using the stolen information to make unauthorized withdrawals from consumer accounts in the state. In all, the police said more than $110,000 was stolen before the fraud was discovered and shut down.
No arrests have been made and it’s not known whether more than one person was involved.
