One CU Recognized For Its Support Of Bicyclists

OKLAHOMA CITY–Allegiance Credit Union here has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award.

It joins approximately 1,090 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in 49 states and Washington that are supporting bicyclists.

According to the Cornerstone CU League, Allegiance has a long-standing relationship with the cycling community through its senior vice president and chief operating officer, Amy Downs. A survivor of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing (Allegiance was formerly Federal Employees Credit Union), Downs launched a campaign of self-improvement and empowerment and incorporated cycling into an intense regime that resulted in her losing 200 lbs.

“An avid cyclist and runner, the former president of the Oklahoma Bicycle Society spends lots of time training for marathons and triathlons and fearlessly cycling hundreds of miles across the state,” the CCUL said. “By inspiring her co-workers, she has helped to transform the culture of the workplace into one that views cycling as a means to a better lifestyle.”

ACU will now have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly.
