NEW YORK–One credit union has been named by Forbes as among those offering the best online savings accounts.
Forbes, which said the criteria for identifying the best online savings account offers included not just rate, but a lack of hefty fees, reasonable minimum deposit and balance requirements, easy-to-reach customer/member service and innovative online and mobile banking technology, named nine institutions as its finalists.
The lone credit union on the list is Chicago-based Alliant Credit Union. Aliant’s High-Rate Savings Account pays an APY of 0.65% with a $100 daily average minimum balance, $5 minimum deposit requirement and $0 monthly fee. It requires e-statements.
Leading the Forbes list was Chime’s Savings Account, which pays 1% APY and which has no minimum deposit requirement and charges no monthly fee. Also on the list was Salle Mae Bank’s Smarty Pig Account, which pays an APY of 0.55% to 0.80% on the $0 minimum deposit account that charges no fees.
Other institutions making the list included Varo (named best for customer service); Marcus by Goldman Sachs (named best for transfers); Discover (best for avoiding fees), and Capital One (best for digital experience).
