OnPoint Community CU Wins National Youth Savings Challenge

PORTLAND, Ore.—The $8.2-billion OnPoint Community Credit Union has been named the winner of the 2021 National Youth Savings Challenge.

According to CUNA, 49,435 OnPoint members 18 and younger deposited $21,105,849  into their savings accounts during April, which was National Credit Union Youth Month. The credit union also opened 2,382 new youth accounts, CUNA stated.

During the month, participating credit unions nationwide promoted the dinosaur-themed slogan, “Be a credit union saver and your savings will never go extinct,” CUNA reported.

“We saw National Credit Union Youth Month as an opportunity to tell people why they should raise kids who are financially savvy,” said Reagan Rosen, social media specialist for OnPoint. “The coronavirus pandemic raised people’s concerns about their ability to deal with long-term financial problems. It demonstrated to our young members, some of whom likely witnessed setbacks suffered by their family and friends, how vital planning for tomorrow is.”

Participating credit unions encouraged kids to share, spend and save wisely through their credit union with giveaways, contests, virtual financial education and more. This year marked the 14th annual National Youth Saving Challenge.
