On Election Day, Michigan CU Paying to Give People a ‘Lyft’ to the Polls

WYANDOTTE, Mich.–Michigan Legacy Credit Union is offering to give local voters a free ride via Lyft to their polling place on election day. The offer, which is for a round-trip ride, is available to anyone who live in one of five zip codes.  Membership in the credit union is not required.

“With the pandemic continuing, people are stressed and considering how they can safely get to the polls to vote,” said Carma Peters, Michigan Legacy Credit Union president and CEO. “Offering free rides eases that concern and allows citizens to perform their civic duty. Plus, one of the seven principals of the credit union financial cooperative is democratic governance; so we think it is a fitting tie-in to provide rides for the communities we serve, ensuring they can exercise their right to vote in this election.”

A mask is required, and riders are limited, with rides available until the $2,500 limit is reached.

Michigan Legacy said it is working with Lyft to expand the rides to Metro Detroit beyond the five current zip codes and will post an announcement on its social media pages when additional zip codes are confirmed.

To access a free Lyft ride on Election Day, Nov. 3, riders must have the Lyft app. In lieu of payment information, riders should enter the code VOTE11320
