Oklahoma’s CUs to Again Assist Voters in Upcoming Elections

OKLAHOMA CITY–Oklahoma’s credit unions are looking to play an important role in the upcoming November elections process by providing services to assist voters wishing to cast absentee ballots.

According to the Cornerstone CU League, prior to the June primaries the Oklahoma State Election Board approached the state’s financial institutions to solicit help in verifying the identities of those wishing to vote absentee.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has now signed the Fourth Amended Executive Order 2020-20 that allows voters to verify their identity by attaching a copy of an approved identification document to their affidavit envelope instead of requiring them to have their signature notarized or witnessed by two people.

The additional absentee option was included in the original executive order issued in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Credit unions also offered the services prior to the June primaries and August runoffs, the Cornerstone league said.

“Because the Fourth Amended Executive Order will still be in effect within 45 days of the Nov. 3 general election, it will again trigger the additional absentee provisions,” the league added.
