Officer Shot During Robbery at Credit Union

FORT WORTH, Texas–A Tarrant County, Texas Sheriff’s officer was shot while working as an off-duty security guard at Fort Worth Community Credit Union’s branch on Brentwood Stair Road.

Officer Brent Brown was shot twice, but has survived the shooting. He had emergency surgery at JPS Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, according to CBS News Texas.

According to police, Brown was shot just before 4 p.m. and was hit in the lower abdomen and upper chest. When police arrived they found the glass of the front door of the credit union had been shattered by bullets.

Four-Hour Standoff

Following a four-hour standoff at his mother’s house, Leland Williams, 35, was arrested, according to CBS News Texas. Williams has been charged with attempted capital murder.

CBS News Texas quoted Sheriff Bill Waybourn as saying, “Brent stood his ground, did his duty, and the nobility of what he did today is what law enforcement expects out of all of our officers. But he did it well, and he rose to the nobility with courage and distinction. Evil walks boldly among us and we must not forget that."
