ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—New Mexico Educators FCU’s new name—Nusenda—hasn’t exactly been embraced by the community and the membership, according to one local news report. KRQE News 13 spoke with local residents, and here is what some are saying about the $1.5-billion CU’s new name, which is a made-up word.
“It’s not a word I love,” said Kristen Diener, a credit union member.
“Where did they get that name from?” asked Eleanor Apodaca, who has a savings account with Nusenda. “I’m not too sure about that one.”
“I just thought it was pointless!” said member Julio Florespiza.
“I don’t know if I really like it,” said member Amanda Thomas.
The news report explained that members approached for an interview all had something to say about the name choice.
“I wasn’t sure it was legitimate,” said Frances Valenzuela at the credit union’s 4th Street NW location on Thursday.
The credit union explained to News 13 that “Nusenda” signifies their unique spin on their bond with the community, the future of banking and the service they offer.
“We wanted to make name as simple and straight forward as possible,” Anneliese Elrod, vice president of marketing for Nusenda, told the news station.
