WASHINGTON—CUNA expects that President Obama will call for greater data security protection measures and possibly roll out his new tax plan, during his state of the union address tonight.
Ryan Donavan, SVP of legislative affairs, said reports over the weekend indicate Obama may renew his call for a new data breach notification law. “We view that as an important part of a comprehensive approach to stopping merchant data breaches,” said Donovan. “It’s not the only thing Congress needs to do to stop merchant data breaches, but it certainly should be part of the solution. The president may also call for new cyber security regulations.”
Donavan noted that reports indicate Obama may roll out his new his new tax plan. “Certainly with Congress intending to pursue tax reform, this is very important. We look forward to the details of that proposal.”
