BRANDON, Manitoba–One credit union here has named a winner after staging a contest that rewarded people for being nice.
Sunrise Credit Union has selected Kanzie Edwards winner of the promotion that ran for several weeks and which encouraged people to do acts of kindness, described them on an entry form and submit those acts of kindness to their nearest branch.
“I got a call from the credit union and they told me I had won and I was very excited," Edwards, who is a first-year college student, told DiscoverWestman.com.
According to the credit union, Edwards did three acts of kindness, including shoveling snow for a neighbor, visiting a senior’s home and holding a door open for an elderly person.
The prize packages offered by Sunrise Credit Union included numerous items donated by participating businesses spread out across the Westman region. “I plan to share some of the prizes with family members and a few friends," she told the publication.
Added Tavona Johnas, VP-wealth and marketing with the credit union, “The promotion was an opportunity to encourage people in our communities to pay it forward this holiday season, We thank everyone that participated in our contest, and hope the value of spreading acts of kindness continues into 2020 and beyond."
More than 100 small businesses in southwestern Manitoba contributed to the package, which included a wide variety of prizes. Among them were 10 yards of gravel, legal services, suitcases, a massage and more than $5,000 in gift cards and cash.
