New Playbook For Outreach: Blaze CU Recruits NFL's Kevin O’Connell For Community Push

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn.—The $4.8-billion Blaze Credit Union here has signed Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell as its newest brand ambassador, adding one of the state’s most recognizable sports figures to its roster of community-focused partners.

The credit union said O’Connell was selected because of his leadership style, community involvement and commitment to supporting others, qualities Blaze said align closely with its own values. O’Connell, who was named the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year in 2024, has led the Vikings to one of the most successful stretches in franchise history.

Under the partnership, O’Connell will appear in Blaze advertising campaigns and work with the credit union on community outreach and charitable initiatives across Minnesota. Blaze CEO Dan Stoltz said the organization looks for ambassadors who demonstrate a commitment to kindness, leadership and community service.

Beyond football, O’Connell has been active in efforts to support children battling cancer. For the past three NFL seasons, he has participated in the league’s My Cause My Cleats initiative, using custom-designed footwear to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer research and related nonprofits.

O’Connell joins a growing lineup of Blaze ambassadors that includes Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber, former Minnesota Lynx coach Lindsay Whalen, Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Oliva, Olympic speed skater Greta Myers, Olympic runner Carrie Tollefson and UFC fighter Gable Steveson. O’Connell said the partnership offers an opportunity to help strengthen communities while supporting the financial well-being of Minnesotans.
