New Co-Branded Cards Add Fuel to Rewards Battle

NEW YORK—Citi and Shell have launched two new co-branded credit cards that offer rewards for fuel and non-fuel purchases.

The Shell Fuel Rewards Mastercard and the Shell Fuel Rewards Card both offer 10 cents per gallon savings at Shell gas stations for up to 20 gallons per purchase; 10% Shell rebates for the first $1,200 in non-fuel purchases at Shell retail stations (renewable each year); 30 cents per gallon savings for new cardholders, valid for five transactions of up to 20 gallons (only available for customers who apply before February 28, 2019), LowCards.com reported.

The Shell Fuel Rewards Mastercard also offers 2% Shell rebates for up to $10,000 in dining and grocery purchases per year, as well as 1% Shell rebates on other purchases.

“Shell rebates are designed like traditional cashback programs, but instead of receiving cash, users receive funding for fuel purchases. The rebates are automatically applied to the cardholder’s account each billing cycle. There is no annual fee for either card, but they both carry an extremely high 26.74% APR,” noted Bill Hardekopf, CEO of LowCards.com.
