RICHMOND, Va.–A new CEO has been named by a credit union in Virginia, while another long-time CEO in Utah has announced retirement plans.
In Virginia, the $91.5-million Connects FCU has named James McBride to lead the organization, succeeding. Evelyn Dowdy, who is retiring after serving in the role for nearly 26 years.
McBride has more than 20 years’ experience in credit unions, having worked in CUs from $70 million in assets to more than $1 billion.
He has most recently served as CEO of Lion’s Share FCU in Salisbury, N.C., where he has overseen growth of nearly 20% in the last two years. Prior to Lion’s Share FCU, McBride served as EVP at The Tennessee Credit Union.
McBride holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Lipscomb University in Nashville.
“I am thrilled that the Connects Federal Credit Union board of directors has selected me to lead the credit union into the next phase of its great legacy,” said McBride. “It is an honor to be the CEO of a credit union with such a long history in Richmond and I cannot wait to serve our volunteers, members, employees, and community.”
The search was completed in partnership with Humanidei.
Retirement in Utah
Meanwhile, in Provo, Utah, after 28 years of leadership and more than 40 in financial services, Utah Community President/CEO Bret VanAusdal said he is planning to retire within the next year.
“We recognize Bret’s unwavering dedication to improving the financial lives of UCCU’s members through pioneering advanced technologies to make financial services easier, safer, and more convenient,” said Board Chair Linda Makin. “We appreciate his ability to focus on and drive financial results.”
The search for a new CEO is being handled by DDJ Myers.
“UCCU’s board has been proactive in its succession planning efforts and a comprehensive search process is already underway,” said Myers, founder & CEO of DDJ Myers, an ALM First Company. “As facilitator, we work very closely with the board to thoroughly evaluate both internal and external candidates and find the best fit possible.”
