New Branch Won’t Open With Coffee Shop Inside After All

SPOKANE, Wash.–Canopy Credit Union has completed the renovation and expansion of a branch here, but plans to lease space to a local coffee shop as part of the building have fallen through.

As CUToday.info reported here, the credit union had purchased a building that in earlier incarnations had been a car dealership and convenience store, with plans to make it its newest branch and to lease space to coffee shop Revel 77. Those plans included a shared outdoor patio and two drive-thru lanes.

Canopy FCU also shares space with Revel77 at another of its branches.

But now the $161-million Canopy FCU, which changed its name in July from Spokane FCU, said the plan has fallen through with its newest facility.

CEO Charlotte Nemec told the Spokane Spokesman-Review in a statement that “unforeseen circumstances” prevented the coffee shop from moving forward with the partnership.

“We’re looking for another lease partner to complement our space,” Nemec said in the statement.

Revel 77 is known for its locally sourced beans and specialty coffee drinks.

“We were very excited to work with Canopy Credit Union on a second location, but the logistics didn’t work out,” Sean Edwards, owner of Revel 77 Coffee, told the publication.

Canopy FCU has approximately 11,450 members.
