New Boards Elected, Individuals Honored In Minnesota, The Dakotas

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.–The Minnesota CU Network and the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas have both announced results of board elections, and have also honored several individuals for their accomplishments.

With more than 500 people on hand for its Annual Conference, the Minnesota Credit Union Network announced new board members and table officers and also honored its outstanding professional and volunteer.

Sen. Tina Smith opened the annual event and expressed support for the credit unions.

During the business meeting, two incumbents were re-elected, and one new member was elected to three-year terms on the MnCUN Board of Directors:

  • Terri Maloney, Catholic United Financial Credit Union - Fewer than 10,000 members
  • Karen Fleming, HBI Employees Credit Union -Fewer than 10,000 members
  • Dave Boden, Hiway Federal Credit Union – At Large Category

Following the Business Meeting, board table officers were elected. Karen Fleming of HBI Employees will serve as Chair, Mary Hansen of Mayo Employees will serve as Vice Chair, and Terri Maloney of Catholic United will serve as Secretary/Treasurer.

Professionals Honored

Separately, Dan Stoltz of SPIRE concluded his time as board chair and was presented with a gavel in honor of his contributions. Stoltz has served on the board since 2011, and as chair since 2016.

The Outstanding Credit Union Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Jerry Schleicher, board chair of Minnco Credit Union. This award is to a credit union volunteer who best represents the credit union spirit through dedication to, and belief in, the credit union movement.

The Professional of the Year Award is given to a “remarkable person who truly stands behind the people helping people credit union philosophy,” the MnCUN said. This year, the honoree for Outstanding Credit Union Professional of the Year Award was Dave Larson, president/CEO of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union.

“Congratulations to our incoming 2019 Board of Directors and thanks to our outgoing chair, Dan Stoltz for his service,” said MnCUN President and CEO Mark Cummins. “I look forward to working with Karen Fleming as chair and the 2019 table officers.”

Elections in the Dakotas

Meanwhile, in Fargo, N.D., the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas announced the results of its board elections. Newly elected to the board were Jerry Peters, a board member with Consumer’s FCU in Gregory, S.D.; Lacey TerWee (secretary/treasurer), CEO of University FCU in Grand Forks, N.D.; Jarrod Reisner (board chair), SVP/CFO with Black Hills FCU, and Darla Schafer (DLSC first vice chair), manager of Flasher Community CU in Flasher, N.D.

Continuing to serve on the board are Melanie Stillwell (first vice chair), CEO of Western Cooperative Credit Union in Williston, N.D.; Jeff Schmidt (DLSC chair), COO of Voyage FCU in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Sean Rinkenberger (second vice chair), CFO with First Community CU in Jamestown, N.D.
