LANSING, Mich.–Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union Named 2022 Credit Union Difference Maker of the Year by the Michigan League as part of the MCUL’s “Try a Credit Union Stories” video competition.
The Try a Credit Union team launched the 2022 Stories contest in October, following by several months the launch of the league’s “Credit Unions. For real. For your future.” campaign. Try a Credit Union invited full-fair-share Michigan credit unions to submit a social media video showing how their credit union is driving the conversation around Gen Z or young Millennials or generally making a difference in the community with an emphasis on helping kids, teens and/or young adults, according to the league.
The Top 8
The MCUL said a total of 24 stories were submitted by 21 of the 51 eligible credit unions. The story selection committee chose the top eight stories, with the league’s CUBE TV producing videos for:
- Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union
- Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union
- Isabella Community Credit Union
- Zeal Credit Union
- Community Financial Credit Union
- Frankenmuth Credit Union
- Peninsula Federal Credit Union
- Marshall Community Credit Union
Presented to the Pubic
The league said that once completed, the videos were presented to the public in a consumer-facing, social voting contest to drive engagement and awareness.
More than 300,000 Michiganders viewed the campaign's stories, and the community voted to crown Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union as the 2022 Credit Union Difference Maker of the Year with its story, 'Never Underestimate the Power of a Kazoo!'
“A huge thanks to our credit unions that find the value in our awareness campaign and support it at the full-fair-share level, showcased their amazing work by submitting a video,” said MCUL CEO Patty Corkery. “Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union is setting a great example of how our movement takes the time to work together with young people so they can achieve the financial benchmarks that are important to their life goals.”
