Nevada CU Turns Heads With Eye-Popping 8.30% APY Offer

LAS VEGAS—As consumers continue searching for higher returns on savings amid persistent inflation and elevated household costs, Create Credit Union here is aggressively competing for deposits with a checking account offering a 8.30% APY on balances up to $10,000.

The $1.6-billion credit union said its Bonus Checking Plus account is designed to help members maximize returns while managing higher costs tied to housing, groceries, fuel and other everyday expenses. Conditions apply to earn the higher rate.

According to Nevada Business Magazine, the move comes as consumers increasingly compare deposit rates and look beyond large national banks for better yields and member-focused products. The publication noted many nationally recognized high-yield savings accounts are currently offering yields closer to 4% to 5%.

Create Credit Union was recently ranked the No. 1 Best In-State Credit Union in Nevada for 2025 by Forbes and Statista, according to the report. The credit union serves more than 60,000 members, including municipal employees in Clark County and several Nevada cities, healthcare professionals, Nevada Public Radio members and select employer groups.

The growing competition around APYs reflects broader pressure on financial institutions to attract and retain deposits as consumers become more rate-sensitive and seek greater value from regional banks and credit unions, Nevada Business Magazine reported.
