Neighbors FCU Turns to AI With Internal Chatbot for Employees to Use

BATON ROUGE, La.–Neighbors FCU here has turned to artificial intelligence for a chatbot designed to be used internally by employees.

The credit union told the Advocate that it is using the AI-powered chatbot to help employees answer questions about internal policies and other human resources matters.

"Very similar to a ChatGPT prompt, if you have a question on how to do something, you’ll be able to type a question and it won’t send you to a document to read, it’ll actually give you the response of what you should do and how you should do something inside the credit union," CEO Steve Webb said in an interview with the Advocate.

Webb anticipates a live product rollout sometime during the first quarter of the year, most likely in February, according to the report, which said the chatbot is powered by a large language model, which processes huge volumes of writing and information to "learn" how to answer questions much like a human would.

‘Really Helpful’

VP-Marketing Brett Reynolds  told the Advocate the large language model may be a big help to employees who don't do the same tasks every day and may need a more obscure answer quickly.

"It’s really helpful for staff that don’t necessarily do a task every single day," he was quoted as saying. "That’s really where I see the big benefit: Doing things like processing debit card disputes and things of that nature that maybe they don’t deal with every single day in the office."
