MADISON, Wis.—The Filene Research Institute is releasing three new reports: Financial Capability Near Retirement: A Profile of Pre-Retirees; The Impact of Two-Tiered Banking: How Credit Unions Can Bridge the Divide, and Credit Union 2.0: An Opportunity to Build Collaborative Partnerships.
The Financial Capability Near Retirement report examines those between 51 and 61 years of age, many of whom carry sizable amounts of debt that they will carry beyond their working years. The report suggests three actions financial institutions can take to better serve pre-retirees.
The Impact of Two-Tiered Banking report is “intriguing for anybody who cares about the complicated relationship between payday lenders and traditional outlets,” according to Filene, and traces the lessons learned in one market. And the Credit Union 2.0 report is a case study on the decision of three Wisconsin credit unions—Best Advantage, CitizensFirst, and Lakeview—to combine, each from a position of strength. The report highlights the potential benefits and seven best practices for collaboration such as this.
