SMITHFIELD, R.I. – As part of its “Next 100” campaign, Navigant Credit Union here has awarded 100 Rhode Island high school students with $1,000 scholarships each to go toward college expenses.
Navigant said it awarded the $100,000 in scholarships to 100 well-rounded high school students who demonstrated a commitment to their academic potential and a passion for community service. The awards were presented at a celebratory breakfast held at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln.
“The scholarships awarded on Thursday are investments in Rhode Island’s future,” Navigant Credit Union President and CEO Gary E. Furtado said. “They are well-deserved rewards for impressive young men and women who will one day be leaders in Rhode Island’s communities. We’re proud to support these 100 students, and we will proudly watch as they move on to do great things for their neighborhoods and for the state.”
The scholarships are part of Navigant Credit Union’s “Next 100” campaign, which was launched when the Credit Union celebrated its 100-year anniversary earlier this year.
“Our first 100 years were built on the foundation of dedicated community involvement and service. The Next 100 campaign is our way of building on those values while we aim to improve the communities we serve in 100 different ways,” Furtado added.
Navigant Credit Union’s Next 100 campaign will continue July 18 with a 100-person torch procession at the iconic downtown Providence WaterFire.
