WASHINGTON–The National Credit Union Foundation said it has made an additional grant of $150,000 to the Louisiana Credit Union League to support credit union employees and volunteers affected by Hurricane Ida.
The grant is in addition to an initial commitment of $100,000 from the NCUF’s CUAid disaster relief program that had been announced earlier.
“This is exactly what CUAid is designed to do,” said Danielle Brown, director of engagement at the Foundation. “The program exists to provide rapid support and whether that’s in one fell swoop or over the course of several grants, if it helps people when they need it the most then it’s working.”
Historically, the Foundation said, it would solicit CUAid donations in the wake of a natural disaster. In 2017 the program was restructured to provide immediate response.
The Foundation added that typically the funds are disbursed as relatively small-dollar grants designed to meet an individual’s immediate needs while they work with an insurer on larger claims.
