SPOKANE, Wash.—During its annual meeting here, the Northwest CU Association seated a new board.
New executive committee members include Chairman Jack Fallis, CEO of Global Credit Union; Vice Chairman, Brooke Van Vleet, CEO of St. Helens Community FCU; and Harborstone CU President Phil Jones as treasurer. Also joining the board were Verity CU CEO John Zmolek and US Agencies CU CEO Jim Lumpkin.
Separately, the Northwest CU Association has presented its Summit Awards. Among those honored: Roger Michaelis, president and CEO of iQ Credit Union in Vancouver, Wash., who was recognized with the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award for his four-decade career as a “credit union innovator and philanthropist.”
Michaelis founded some of the region’s first CUSOs and was a driving force establishing and building Credit Unions for Kids. Ynette Gibbs, CEO of Newrizons FCU in Hoquiam, Washington, received the Innovation & Impact Award for her outreach to underserved consumers, including “character-based lending” and a Volunteer Tax Assistance Program that resulted in over $500,000 in refunds for 300 working poor families.
Victoria King, business services manager at Portland, Ore.-based Rivermark Community CU, was honored as the Young Credit Union Professional of the Year, while Susan Streifel, CEO of Woodstone CU in Federal Way, Wash., was honored as the Washington Advocate of the Year, and Mandy Jones, CEO of Eugene, Ore-based Oregon Community CU, was named Oregon Advocate of the Year.
