NDAA Passes Senate Without Provisions Related to Credit Cards, Military Bases

WASHINGTON—The Senate has passed its version of the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 86-11, and the final bill did not include provisions related to components of the Credit Card Competition Act nor did it include language that would give banks access to leases for facilities on military bases that are equal to those currently provided to credit unions.

Both the latter provisions have been priorities for the credit union trade groups. But as CUToday.info reported here, Sen Roger Marshall, a co-sponsor of the Credit Card Competition Act, has said the bill will be brought to a vote in the Senate this year.

The House had previously passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act, and it did not include any language related to credit card interchange or military base lease provisions.

Conference Committee Ahead

However, as those working Capitol Hill on behalf of credit unions have also said in remarks to CUToday.info, the bill still must go to conference committee to hash out differences and there remails the risk the language opposed by credit unions could be inserted.
