NCUA’s Hauptman to Name Person Well-Known to Many in CUs as Senior Policy Advisor; 2-Day Board Meeting Begins Today

ALEXANDRIA, Va.–New NCUA Board Member Kyle Hauptman intends to name Sarah Canepa Bang as his senior policy advisor, CUToday.info has learned. Sources told CUToday.info Canepa-Bang has been meeting with NCUA, but no timetable for the announcement was available.

Canepa Bang is well-known to many in credit unions for her more than 30 years of service in the CU community. She retired in 2017 as CO-OP Financial Services’ EVP of Industry Relations, but has remained active in a number of CUSO and credit union advisory boards, as well as on the Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board for Children’s Miracle Network. Canepa-Bang has also been active with the World Council of Credit Unions and the Global Women’s Leadership Network.

Canepa-Bang began her career in 1983 at CUNA in Madison, Wis., and later served as education director for the then Oregon Credit Union League before joining the then Massachusetts CUNA CU League and the New Hampshire Credit Union League as VP-human resources. She returned to the Oregon league in 1990 before taking over FSCC, the shared branching network in 1999. She joined CO-OP Financial Services in 2012 when it acquired FSCC.

In 2013, Canepa Bang, who lives in Washington State, was named the winner of the Herb Wegner Award for Individual Achievement.

Hauptman, who joined the NCUA board last week following Senate confirmation, will participate in his first agency board meetings on Thursday and Friday. CUToday.info will have coverage.
