NCUA FOM Webinar Today

ALEXANDRIA, Va.–NCUA is hosting a webinar Wednesday on “Successful Strategies for Field of Membership Expansion.”

Vanessa Lowe, economic development specialist with NCUA’s Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, will be joined by Ynette Gibbs, CEO of Newrizons FCU in Hoquiam, Washington, along with staff from NCUA’s Office of Consumer Protection.

The panel will discuss how field-of-membership expansion and reaching underserved communities can be part of a credit union’s strategic plan. Topics will include:

  • Using data to maximize membership growth.
  • A business plan template to assist with applying for field-of-membership expansion.
  • Reviewing the Field-of-Membership Internet Application.
  • Newrizons Federal Credit Union’s experience before and after its field-of-membership expansion. 

Separately, the Feb. 10 town hall webinar hosted by NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz and featuring Richard Cordray, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is available online. An audio recording and written transcript of the virtual town hall are available here.

NCUA also announced that credit unions interested in applying for the next round of NCUA grants can get information during the upcoming April 15 webinar, “NCUA 2015 Grant and Loan Opportunities.”

Scheduled for 2 p.m. ET, Dominic Carullo, an economic development specialist with NCUA’s Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, will be joined by Geetha Valiyil, comptroller, Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, and David Fitzgerald, national account director, Illinois Credit Union League, to discuss the grant application process and the four grant initiatives that NCUA will fund: cybersecurity, building capacity branching, digital growth and new products and services.

A 30-minute question-and-answer session will follow the webinar presentation.

In addition, Lynn Gray, CEO of Remington FCU, Ilion, New York, and Lowell Stevens, CEO of Latah FCU, Moscow, Idaho, will share their experiences with using grant funds to introduce mobile banking applications and remote deposit capture services to their memberships.
