WASHINGTON—NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) discussed the status of various bills currently before Congress that offer regulatory relief to credit unions.
"We appreciate Senate Majority Leader McConnell's time and look forward to more opportunities to work with him on the important issues credit unions care about," said Berger. "NAFCU will continue to meet with lawmakers about the importance of credit union regulatory relief and to make sure credit unions' voices are heard."
NAFCU Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt and Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Allyson Browning also attended the meeting.
The meeting also touched on flood insurance reauthorization, the importance of data security and potential routes for housing finance reform.
NAFCU said it continues to push for a strong national data security standard that would hold retailers to the same standards credit unions already follow under the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act. NAFCU also continues to urge Congress to preserve credit unions’ guaranteed access to the secondary mortgage market and fair pricing for credit union mortgage loans based on loan quality rather than volume.
