WASHINGTON—Ahead of this week’s House Small Business Committee hearing on strengthening cybersecurity in small businesses, NAFCU shared the trade association’s six data privacy principles with the committee as it considers legislation aimed at protecting consumer, employer, and supplier data.
In the letter, Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler reiterated NAFCU's call for national data privacy and security standards and explained the urgent need to protect consumer information.
"NAFCU urges Congress to come together in a bipartisan way and put forward legislative recommendations to protect financial institutions and small businesses while ensuring other entities who handle financial data are subject to strong national data security standards," wrote Thaler.
NAFCU noted that it has many resources available to ensure credit unions can effectively identify and address cybersecurity concerns.
