SAN FRANCISCO–NAFCU today will kick off its 2016 Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference here at the Hyatt Regency.
Keynoting the meeting will be Navy Captain Charlie Plumb. Plumb spent six years as a Vietnam prisoner of war in a communist prison camp. Since his release, Plumb has dedicated his life to sharing his harrowing story of survival and how that experience has impacted his everyday challenges. Conference attendees will receive a copy of Plumb's inspiring book “I'm No Hero.” In addition to Plumb’s presentation, attendees will hear from other leading industry professionals.
Additionally, NAFCU Director of Education Devon Lyon will share his expertise on the Bank Secrecy Act in the BSA Board Update session. Separately, he will also cover the Different Roles of Audit and Compliance with CliftonLarsonAllen Principal Dean Rohne. Numerous other speakers will also be presenting.
“This conference provides attendees a prime opportunity to enhance their skills as effective volunteer leaders,” said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. “Board and committee members will gain valuable insight and skills that will help drive their credit unions’ success into the future.”
Separately, NAFCU has launched a new Credit Card Compliance Bootcamp today, an online course that is designed to help credit unions better understand the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act and other credit card requirements.
“This new NAFCU training bootcamp is designed to give credit unions all the information they need regarding Regulation Z as it applies to credit cards, such as credit card disclosures, change-in-term notices and limitations on increases, and special credit card rules,” said NAFCU’s Lyon. “Credit unions will be able to equip their entire staff with this training so they can comply with these rules with confidence.”
NAFCU said its Credit Card Compliance Bootcamp guides credit unions through the rigorous compliance process. Presenter Steven Van Beek, attorney with Howard & Howard, covers the Credit CARD Act in detail with 22 modules that provides viewers with a comprehensive understanding of disclosures, changes-in-term notices and special credit card rules. Upon completing the course, viewers can earn 10.5 continuing education credits (CEUs) to apply towards NAFCU Certified Compliance Office (NCCO) recertification.
The Credit Card Compliance Bootcamp is $699 for NAFCU members and $999 to nonmembers. The online course is free as part of the Compliance Webcast & Online Training Subscription (CWOTS) and All-Access Pass (APP).
