WASHINGTON—NAFCU has added to its slate of speakers for its Congressional Caucus Senate Banking Committee member Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and several Republican and Democratic members of the House Financial Services Committee.
Congressional Caucus, Sept. 10-13 in Washington, is what NAFCU calls its “lobbying event of the year.” Caucus speakers will address the latest developments on tax reform, regulatory relief and other key issues for the credit union industry; attendees will discuss those issues during afternoon meetings with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill, NAFCU said.
Along with Heitkamp, recent speaker additions include: House Financial Services Committee Majority Whip French Hill (R-AK), Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittee Chairman Steve Pearce (R-NM), Capital Markets, Securities, and Investment Subcommittee Ranking Member Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), and committee member Joyce Beatty (D-OH).
Heitkamp serves as the ranking member of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy. She also serves on the subcommittees on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, and National Security and International Trade and Finance. In addition, she sits on the Senate committees on Small Business and Entrepreneurship; Indian Affairs; Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Heitkamp, along with Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) wrote CFPB Director Richard Cordray echoing NAFCU's call for a one-year delay in the Bureau's revised Home Mortgage Disclosure Act rule. The two also introduced a bill that would increase the reporting threshold for open-end lines of credit and closed-end mortgages under the HMDA rule. (Rounds is also speaking at Caucus.)
Hill also serves on three House Financial Services Subcommittees: Capital Markets, Securities, and Investment; Monetary Policy and Trade; and Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
Pearce also sits on the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance. Maloney also serves on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, and Terrorism and Illicit Finance subcommittees. She also sits on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the House Joint Economic Committee.
Beatty serves on the House Financial Services Subcommittees on Housing and Insurance, and Oversight and Investigations. She also co-chairs the House Financial and Economic Literacy Caucus and serves on many other House caucuses and task forces.
