WILMINGTON, N.C.—Credit unions in some of the areas devastated by Hurricane Florence are beginning to dig out from the aftermath of a storm that has killed 37 so far and set record flood levels in this state.
The Carolinas CU League reported that a number of credit unions that have had branches closed are now open again, although several offices in hard-hit areas such Wilmington, N.C., remain closed.
Piedmont Advantage CU's Kenansville, N.C., and Wilmington locations remain closed until further notice. Those locations sustained minimal damage but are inaccessible due to power outages and flooding that is restricting travel, which CUToday.info reported.

First Carolina People's CU, Goldsboro, N.C., sustained only minor roof leaks and is fully operational, the league said. Hamlet FCU sustained slight water damage at its Hamlet, N.C. location. HFCU’s Laurinburg, N.C., branch remains closed until further notice due to flooding in the area, and pending damage assessment, the league said. Local Government FCU has 13 branches in North Carolina that remain closed and five on modified schedules.
Vision Financial FCU, Durham, N.C., is open at its main and Roxboro, N.C., branches, though many roads are flooded. The Fayetteville, N.C., office remains closed but has power and is not flooded, and the drive-thru is available with very limited staffing, the league said.
