Mother, Daughter Charged With Theft From Now-Defunct Credit Union

WILLIAMSPORT, Penn.– A mother and daughter team have been accused of stealing as much as $1.2-million from the credit union at which they were employed before the CU was merged.

Mindy L. Plasters, 68, and Brittany Aikey, 33, both of New Columbia, have been released on personal recognizance following their arraignments in U.S. Middle District Court, according to PennLive.com.

Plasters and Aikey have been charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud with the victim being the former NU Community Credit Union in Milton, Penn. NU Community was merged into Service 1st Credit Union in 2018.

Prosecutors have accused Plasters and Aikey of working together to obtain unauthorized loans from 2009 through February 2017.

Specific Allegations

According to PennLive.com, the alleged illegal activity took place by: 

  • Applying for loans using the names of members of the credit union without their knowledge
  • Applying for loans using the identities of credit union members with their knowledge, but giving them false information about the purpose and terms of the loans
  • Falsifying financial information on member applications to qualify for loans that otherwise would not have been approved
  • Obtaining the proceeds of loans for their own use not for the members whose names they used
  • Obtaining cash advances for personal use utilizing members’ MasterCard accounts serviced by credit union without their knowledge

They also are accused of not repaying the loans or cash advances, PennLive.com reported.
