MCLEAN, Va.—Mortgage rates changed little this week, with the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage edging up one basis point to 6.66%, according to Freddie Mac’s latest Primary Mortgage Market Survey.
The 30-year rate was up from 6.65% last week and remained above the 6.56% average reported a year earlier. The 15-year fixed rate rose to 5.98% from 5.95% the previous week and 5.69% a year ago.
“Mortgage rates changed little this week averaging 6.66%,” said Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater. “The economy remains resilient, demonstrated by steady consumer spending and rising household incomes.”
Khater added that an increase in homes for sale and slower price growth in many markets are giving buyers more choices and helping produce a more balanced housing market.
