More Than $660,000 in Grants to CU Staff, Volunteers Has Been Awarded in Wake of Hurricane Ian

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–In the wake of Hurricane Ian, which struck southwest Florida and south central portions of the state the hardest, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates, reported it has received nearly 550 disaster relief grant applications to date.

In response, the foundation said it has awarded more than $660,000 in grants to credit union staff and volunteers.

“As a result of the tremendous support provided to the Foundation, requests for assistance have slowed down in recent weeks, showing just how effective this relief has been,” a spokesperson for the Foundation said. “We are most grateful to everyone who leaned to offer supplies such as generators, mobile branches, ATMs, and more, as well as those who donated financially to provide much needed relief and to help rebuild homes and branches. The support provided by the credit union community is unparalleled, and we appreciate the generosity of our partners across the globe.”

The spokesperson said that as it continues to assist with rebuilding efforts it is working to replenish the Foundation’s disaster relief funds to ensure it is prepared for the next hurricane or other natural disaster, which are known to frequent the region.
