NAPERVILLE, Ill.–Credit unions across Illinois participated in the second annual “CU Kind Day” on Monday.
Taking advantage of the holiday, 55 credit unions and partners worked to spread kindness through a variety of good works as part of the celebration around International Credit Union Week.
The Illinois Credit Union League launched CU Kind Day in 2019 with the purpose of spreading kindness and generating awareness for the good work credit unions do in their communities and for their members.
“I’m so proud to work in an industry that focuses on people over profits,” said ICUL President/CEO Tom Kane. “Especially now, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis, CU Kind Day highlights that our mindset as an industry hasn’t changed – people are still our first priority. I look at the CU Kind Day initiative as a great demonstration of that mindset; it is an opportunity to show our communities how important they are to credit unions and to our movement.”
While the pandemic has altered the methods of doing good this year, nevertheless more than 2,100 credit union volunteers collectively supported 104 community organizations and generated more than $75,000 in goods and donations.
“From monetary donations to rebuilding park shelters, credit unions proved, once again, that we are stronger together,” the league said.
Credit unions in Illinois weren’t alone in their efforts. As CUToday.info reported here, credit unions across Minnesota as well as BECU in Seattle also flooded their communities with good works projects.
