More Of What CUs Are Doing For National CU Youth Month

HERNDON, Va.—April is National Credit Union Youth Month, and throughout this month CUToday.info is highlighting the various ways credit unions are participating, including:

Northwest Federal Credit Union is encouraging its younger members to make a smart choice and save for the future by offering added incentives to those who make deposits or open accounts. During April, young members who open a Youth Club Account will receive a $5 savings bonus plus a special “High Five” pen, while supplies last. Young members who deposit at least $50 to a Youth Club account during the month will receive a savings bonus of $5, plus the “High Five” pen.

“Our younger members are the future of our credit union, and our community,” said Chris McDonald, president/CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union. “We’re committed to investing in their future, and ours, by helping them learn the value of saving and good money management.”Northwest Federal offers four different Youth Club Accounts, designed for children ages birth to 17, to promote financial education and help them grow their savings. The credit union will also host a Youth Club Carnival at its Herndon branch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 25th.

In Rochester, N.H., Holy Rosary Credit Union (HRCU) will be celebrating National Credit Union Youth Month in April with tie-in’s to the CUNA-run program. During April, children 12 and under are encouraged to visit any HRCU branch to pick up a “Wild About Savings” coloring contest entry form.  Submitted entries will be eligible to win prizes that include museum passes and gift cards that will be awarded during the first week of May. HRCU’s money saving superheroes, Cash and Violet, will also be making special visits throughout the community during Youth Month, spreading the word to kids on how to be smart with their money.
