More Guilty Pleas In Crime Ring That Used Skimmers to Hit CUs Across Multiple States

HARRISBURG, Penn.–Several people have pleaded guilty as part of a crime ring that stole more than $5 million from credit unions in Pennsylvania, as well as in Florida, Alabama, New York, Texas, and Michigan.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the scheme involved skimmers and hidden cameras in a crime that has hit credit unions all over the country and stole money from members’ accounts.

Pleas Entered

  • Maria Matei, 22, and Larisa Iordache, 28, who pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy to commit bank fraud
  • Florin Matei, 27, who pleaded guilty in October to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft
  • Ionut Iamandita, 28, and Milena Iamandita 25, who pleaded guilty in November to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft
  • Marius Iordache, 29, who pleaded guilty in November to conspiring to commit bank fraud

The Penalties

The maximum penalty for committing bank fraud is 30 years in prison and aggravated identity theft has a mandatory sentence of two years in prison which must be served consecutively.

The FBI and United States Secret Service investigated the case that Assistant U.S. Attorney John M. Hundscheid prosecuted.
