GREAT FALLS, Mont.–Two Montana credit unions have announced plans to merge. By a 279-11 vote, members of the $5-million Shelby Community Credit Union have voted in favor of combining with 1st Liberty Credit Union.
1st Liberty has $174-million in assets and approximately 16,674 members.
The merger date is planned for the end of August to open for business the third day of September 2019.
Once complete, the credit union will serve four markets in Montana, as well as Grand Forks, N.D.
In a statement, Steve Grooms, president and CEO of 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union, said the merger will be a good fit for both Shelby Community FCU members as well as for 1st Liberty FCU
