Michigan League Announces Changes In Management Structure

Ken Ross

LANSING, Mich.--The Michigan Credit Union League has announced changes in its management structure, with Ken Ross being promoted from EVP to president/COO of the league.

Dave Adams will continue in the role of CEO and will supervise Ross and report to the MCUL Board on association operations, the league said, but will also expand his role in managing CU Solutions Group (CUSG) in tandem with Drew Egan,  who will serve as COO/CFO for CUSG as well as his CFO duties for MCUL. Other management changes were made to align with this new direction.

The MCUL said Ross has extensive experience working in political and regulatory affairs at the state and national level with an emphasis on the financial service sector. In his expanded role, his primary responsibility will be the association’s affiliation efforts, federal and state advocacy relationships, and all association functions. He will be the primary liaison to credit union system organizations such as CUNA and AACUL.

Ross joined the Michigan Credit Union League as Regulatory Affairs Director in 2000 and spent three years working on re-codifying the Michigan Credit Union Act, which remains one of the most progressive state credit union acts in the nation, the league said. In 2003 he was named chief of staff to the commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation, and in 2008 he was appointed commissioner, serving as the chief financial regulator for Michigan, leading the agency of over 350 staff and a budget of over $50 million during the financial turmoil that upended economies around the globe.

In 2013, he returned to the Michigan Credit Union League as EVP/COO, responsible for the trade association operations, including government affairs, education and communications. Ross led a two-year effort to update the Michigan Credit Union Act, culminating with the Governor signing legislation in 2016 at the MCUL/CUSG Annual Convention & Exposition.

“The MCUL board discussed these changes at great length and expressed strong confidence in Ken Ross in this new role,” said Adams. “This also aligns with the board’s desire to plan and execute a good succession plan for MCUL & Affiliates. Our boards and I have tremendous confidence in Ken’s talents and skills as well as his passion for the credit union mission.”
