Michigan First Completes Work On New $38 Million Headquarters

LATHRUP VILLAGE, Mich. – Michigan First Credit Union said it has completed expansion and renovation work on its $38 million headquarters here.

The credit union nearly tripled the size of its facility to accommodate what it called the “tremendous growth” in membership and team members. The $912-million Michigan First has more than 147,000.

The project spanned 24 months, resulting in numerous building enhancements for members and team members, MFCU said. The branch in the headquarters was expanded and converted to a “financial store” design, a unique branch environment that increases service flexibility. When members enter the branch, team members can directly assist them using tablets to streamline service and provide a more efficient member experience, Michigan First said.

In addition to the branch renovation, MFCU said it has also expanded office space for its growing number of employees, while adding The Mint at Michigan First Conference Center, and a Built and Brewed in Detroit coffee shop, which are open to the public.

‘Elevating Experiences’

“The headquarters expansion illustrates the credit union’s investment in elevating member and team member experiences and is a direct result of the growth that has occurred throughout our history,” said Michael Poulos, Michigan First Credit Union president/CEO.

The Mint at Michigan First Conference Center is an event venue for celebrations of all sizes, from corporate parties, galas, and meetings, to weddings, cocktail parties and other social gatherings, the credit union said. The Mint’s main room offers more than 10,000 square feet of flexible, unobstructed space that can easily be divided to accommodate banquets, classroom-style training, theatre-style presentations and more. The facility is also equipped with the latest technology to support meetings and offers valet service. The Mint’s staff can assist with all planning needs from food and beverage to décor, MFCU said.

Other Features of Building

Additional renovation highlights include a new cafeteria for Michigan First team members with a full-service kitchen and an outdoor seating area. The team member fitness center was also expanded and updated with the latest gym equipment.

Birmingham-based Saroki Architecture was the project architect, while Detroit-based DeMaria served as the lead developer alongside project manager Bob Formisano of Project Planning & Management, Inc.
