DURHAM, N.C.–The $15-million Greater Piedmont Credit Union said it has opted to merge into Self-Help Credit Union.
Greater Piedmont has 6,000 members and two branches. The $611-million Self-Help has 130,000 members and 40 branches.
Greater Piedmont was founded to serve Durham Regional Hospital employees in 1977. Its FOM has expanded to now serve more than 150 Select Employer Groups, including employees of the Snyder-Lance snack foods plant.
The merger has already been approved by both credit union boards and state and federal credit regulators.
Greater Piedmont cited Self-Help’s breadth of products and services as a primary driver of the merger.
Earlier this year Self-Help also acquired Apopka, Fla.-based Community Trust FCU in a merger.
