LINCOLN, Neb.—The $109-million MembersOwn CU reported the organization may have experienced a data breach.
The credit union stated that unauthorized access to one of the CU's email accounts may have involved people’s personal information, the Lincoln Journal Star reported, citing a news release from the organization.
The suspicious activity associated with the credit union’s email environment was identified June 13, the Journal Star said, adding the credit union secured its email environment and has started an investigation.
“An investigation conducted by the credit union revealed there was unauthorized access to one email account, according to the release. That email account may have contained personal information like addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account information and other personal data,” the Journal Star said.
In response to the incident, MembersOwn has reset email passwords and reinforced multi-factor authentication measures, the Journal Star said.
The credit union also sent letters to potentially affected individuals and offered credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian, the Journal star said.
