Members of CU Alerted of Potential Breach of Their Personal Data Through Third Party

INDIANAPOLIS–In a development that affects members of at least one credit union, Bradford-Scott Data, LLC has filed a notice of a data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after discovering an unauthorized party was able to access portions of the company’s IT network.

According to the company, the data breach could involve data belonging to members of Wellness Federal Credit Union in Hartford, Conn.

JDSupra reported that in the notice Bradford-Scott said the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, including their names and Social Security numbers. Upon completing its investigation, Bradford-Scott began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident, JDSupra said.

While additional information is to be released, JDSupra.com said Bradford-Scott’s filing with the attorney general of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach.

‘Unusual Activity’ Detected

“On July 2, 2023, Bradford-Scott detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, Bradford-Scott secured its network and then began working with third-party data forensic specialists to investigate the incident and determine what, if any, consumer information was leaked as a result,” JDSupra stated. “Through this investigation, Bradford-Scott learned that an unauthorized party was able to access part of its IT network between May 19, 2023, and May 28, 2023, including certain files containing confidential consumer information.
