BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Some members of Valley Strong Credit Union here have been reporting issues with their accounts as the result of what the CU said is fraud at a third-party merchant.
A spokesperson for Valley Strong told KGET one of its branches was dealing with a “large call volume and increased traffic” from members reporting fraudulent charges. The credit union said there were no monetary losses for any of its members, and that each member who was affected by the charge has been notified with instructions on the next step of the process, according to KGET.
“It was about 4:30 in the morning and I woke up to text messages saying I had two fraud alerts,” VSCU member Amora Jensen told the news outlet. “They verified if I made the charges and I said no to both and they said they needed to lock my account and shut down my card.”
The credit union reported that there has been no breach of its systems. It did not identify the name of the merchant involved.
