Members Approve Merger Of Tennessee and Mississippi Credit Union Leagues

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., and JACKSON, Miss.—Members of the Mississippi Credit Union Association and the Tennessee Credit Union League have overwhelmingly approved a merger that will formally unite the two state trade groups, the organizations announced Tuesday.

The vote clears the way for the associations to combine operations and build a single organization representing more than 170 credit unions across Tennessee and Mississippi. Leaders said the merger is designed to strengthen advocacy, expand education offerings, and deepen expertise in areas such as compliance, events, and vendor partnerships.

“Through this collaboration with Mississippi, we are building a stronger trade association for both Tennessee and Mississippi credit unions,” said Fred Robinson, president and CEO of the Tennessee Credit Union League. “By bringing together more than 170 credit unions under one organization, we can offer credit unions dedicated advocacy resources, more educational opportunities at better prices, and deeper expertise across compliance, events and vendor partnerships. It also gives credit unions a louder collective voice in Washington and at the state level.”

The combined organization will become a legal entity on Jan. 1, 2026, with the two leagues beginning a transition process to integrate their operations, governance, and services.

Robinson will serve as president and CEO of the new organization. Charles Elliott, president and CEO of the Mississippi Credit Union Association, will take on the role of chief advocacy officer for Mississippi.

“We are excited to strengthen our support for credit unions of all asset sizes, with an increased focus on supporting smaller credit unions,” Robinson said. “In the coming months, we will work closely with our transition board to align our products, services, structure and strategy in meaningful ways as we build the new organization.”
