Members 1st FCU Honors Former CEO With Memorial Garden

MECHANICSBURG, Penn.–To honor its former CEO who died unexpectedly in 2017, Members 1st FCU joined with the West Shore Chamber of Commerce to dedicate the Bob Marquette Memorial Garden.

The garden is located beside the branch entrance in front of the drive-through lanes facing Louise Drive, where Members 1st's headquarters are located. It features an array of flowers, trees, and stepping stones, according to the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.

“Marquette worked tirelessly for Members 1st for more than 31 years, serving from 1986 until his untimely passing in July 2017,” noted the PCUA. “During his career at the credit union, he headed the mortgage department, oversaw lending and served as chief operating officer before becoming president and CEO in 1997. He was instrumental in leading not only the credit union’s growth in terms of products, services, assets, branch locations, and more but also in developing its philanthropic legacy that continues to go beyond charitable fundraising. He was also passionate about advocating for credit union issues at the state and national level.”

This memorial garden project is part of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce’s 70th anniversary celebration and their giving back to the community and businesses that support them, the PCUA said. PA Landscaping Group prepared the garden. PCUA SVP of Marketing and Communications Mike Wishnow attended the dedication.

“We appreciate the generosity of the West Shore Chamber and the opportunity to be a part of their 70th anniversary. Much like the West Shore Chamber, Members 1st believes strongly in giving back to the community. Bob was such a huge part of our credit union family as well as the local area,” said George Nahodil, Members 1st president and CEO. “This garden serves as a beautiful way to honor his memory and legacy as it grows and changes throughout the seasons. We continue to be grateful for the strong foundation built during Bob’s time here, and we will honor his legacy by continuing to serve our members and the community as we move forward.”
