MemberSource CU Breach Exposes Unencrypted Data Of More Than 22,000

HOUSTON—The $206-million MemberSource Credit Union here has disclosed a data breach affecting 22,308 Texas residents after unauthorized access to its network exposed unencrypted personal information, according to state breach filings and notices.

The California attorney general’s office lists the known breach date as June 3, 2025.

The Houston-based CU said it detected disruptions in certain branch computer networks on June 3 and later determined that data had been extracted from its network. By April 1, 2026, a review found the files contained names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state ID numbers and financial account information, ClassAction.org reported, citing the notice.

The breach was reported to multiple state attorneys general, including California, Texas, Massachusetts, Montana and Vermont, according to Claim Depot. The Texas attorney general’s breach portal says posted details can include the number of affected Texans and the types of data involved.

MemberSource told affected individuals it is offering fraud assistance through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, and urged consumers to monitor accounts and credit reports, report suspicious activity, and consider fraud alerts or credit freezes.
