SAN FRANCISCO—Europe, portions of Asia and companies in the U.S. on Tuesday was hit by a massive cyberattack that disrupted the power grid and banks’ business.
According to a USA Today report, the attack stems from a new strain of ransomware named Petya, which cybersecurity experts are calling one of the most devastating digital intrusions of its type, the newspaper said.
Ukraine was particularly hard hit: Government officials and businesses there reported serious disruptions on the power grid, and at banks and government offices. According to the Associated Press, Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk and Russian oil company Rosneft were among the victims, said USA Today in its report.
